Dubai Airport proposes VIP tunnel for air taxi passengers, reveals CEO

Dubai International Airport is exploring plans to create a seamless VIP transfer service for future air taxi passengers, according to Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports.

Griffiths revealed that an existing tunnel near the upcoming DXV vertiport could potentially be repurposed to offer direct premium transfers between the vertiport and the airport terminal. The concept would allow air taxi passengers to move quickly and smoothly from aircraft to flight, enhancing convenience and reducing transfer times.

The proposal could extend the airport’s Al Majlis premium service to air taxi users, offering fast-track immigration, security clearance, private lounges, and personalised escort services. Griffiths described the integration of air taxis into the premium travel ecosystem as a natural and “beautiful extension” of the existing luxury service.

Construction of the vertiport is reported to be well advanced, with aerial mobility expected to transform urban transport by enabling point-to-point travel without road congestion. While the service may initially launch on a limited scale, authorities anticipate wider expansion as infrastructure develops.

Passenger operations are expected to begin this year in collaboration with the Roads and Transport Authority, the GCAA, and the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority. Griffiths added that future versions of air taxis, offering greater speed, range, and capacity, could significantly reshape personal mobility in the UAE.
